About UL Listed Cabinets
APX has a large library of standard enclosures. Most are NEMA rated and UL listed and can be adapted to the majority of applications. However, APX can design a custom enclosure to be NEMA certified (NEMA 3R or 4X) and/or UL-508a listed using your dimensions, requirements and environment. All our certified cabinets are designed to contain your electrical control equipment and protect it from external environmental conditions while simultaneously providing security from intrusion. Every outdoor weatherproof electrical enclosure we make can be non-corrosive and weatherproof, so you can trust these products to protect the electronic equipment inside from heat, rain, dirt, dust, snow, sleet and other extreme elements.
NEMA 3R AND 4X
NEMA 3R enclosures are constructed for either indoor or outdoor use and provide a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. These cabinets provide a degree of protection against the ingress of solid foreign objects (dirt, rocks) and water (rain, sleet, snow). These enclosures are also designed to be undamaged by the external formation of ice.
NEMA 4X enclosures are constructed for either indoor or outdoor use and provide a degree of protection access to hazardous parts. These enclosures provide all the foreign object protection of NEMA 3R plus protection against windblown dust. NEMA 4X enclosures provide a higher degree of protection against water (rain, sleet, snow) and protection from direct splashing and hose-directed water. They also provide an additional level of protection against corrosion.
UL 508A
UL 508A is the standard for the construction of enclosures, cabinets and industrial control panels. The standard provides guidelines on a variety of electrical and human safety issues. APX is a UL 508A certified manufacturer, meaning we can manufacture control panels that have the UL 508A Listing label. This label provides evidence that the control panel complies with the nationally recognized safety standards.
APX UL 508A listed enclosures meet certain performance requirements, such as corrosion protection, electrical grounding, insulating materials and spacings. They also meet the cUL 508A standard for Canada.
